Alan Wong opened his original Honolulu restaurant on South King Street in 1995 and helped found the Hawaii Regional Cuisine movement. The King Street restaurant closed in 2020 after 25 years in business, according to Honolulu Magazine. Alan Wong's reopened April 8, 2026 inside The Kahala Hotel & Resort at 5000 Kahala Ave, replacing the hotel's longtime restaurant Hoku's, according to Aloha State Daily.
