Is Caribe Night Club Still Open? Bar Rescue Update (Bonita, CA)

Caribe Night Club was a Caribbean-themed bar near San Diego, California, when it appeared on Bar Rescue's "Til Debt Do Us Part," which aired October 4, 2015. The episode centered on owner Juan Pablo Martinez, who had moved to the United States from the Dominican Republic and was roughly $300,000 in debt with eleven months of back rent, and on personal strain at home that the episode connected to how he ran the business, a dynamic Jon Taffer had to address before focusing on service and financial fixes. Taffer's team retrained the bar staff, reworked the drink and food programs, and relaunched the venue under a new name, La Luz Ultra Lounge.

According to the episode's six-week follow-up, alcohol sales rose about 25 percent and food sales more than doubled after the relaunch. La Luz Ultra Lounge kept operating under that name for several years. A 2023 review from Reality TV Updates found the lounge still open at its Bonita Road address, though customer ratings on Yelp and Google were only middling at that point. By 2025 the club was using the Caribe name again, according to reader comments on Reality TV Updates. Eventbrite and Jambase listings show an Afrobeats lounge called Roots & Rhythm holding a grand launch weekend on May 30 and 31, 2025 at 5080 Bonita Rd in Bonita, California, and booking Afrobeat, Amapiano, and reggae-focused shows into 2026, with 2026 event listings placing the lounge "inside Caribe."

A business-filing record on Bizprofile.net lists Roots And Rhythm LLC, registered in December 2024 at 5080 Bonita Road and managed by four other companies, while Caribe's own website, updated in January 2026, still presents the club as Club Caribe, operating for 23 years. Over roughly a decade, the club has gone from Caribe Night Club to La Luz Ultra Lounge and back to Caribe, with Roots & Rhythm running as an Afrobeats lounge night inside the club rather than replacing it; no sale of the club was found. The bar originally opened as a Dominican-flavored nightclub catering to a Caribbean and Latino clientele in the South Bay area of San Diego County.

The property sits in Bonita, an unincorporated San Diego County community, which is why some listings describe the location simply as "San Diego." Current owners are not named in the available sources; the club's website describes it as veteran- and Latino-owned and operated. As of the most recent 2026 event listings, weekly Saturday nights inside Caribe are scheduled through December 2026, though a May 2026 reader comment on Reality TV Updates said Google listed the venue as temporarily closed.
