What happened after Bar Rescue?
Myerz PourHouse was a bar in El Cajon, California, purchased in 2011 by owner Jeremy Myers, a former U.S. Coast Guard member, using money left to him by his father. On the episode "Jon Ain't Afraid of No Ghost" (aired 2015-08-23), the bar's staff described the building as haunted, citing security footage and personal accounts, and brought in outside investigators to examine the claims; the show's team said the ongoing focus on the bar's reported hauntings had become a distraction from basic operating problems. Bar Rescue's team found bartenders significantly overpouring drinks, at an estimated cost of thousands of dollars in liquor, and observed that the bar top was left disorganized. Host Jon Taffer and mixologist Lisamarie Joyce also said the Myerz PourHouse name itself created an unwanted association with poverty. The venue's ghost-related storyline made it one of the more unusual premises in the show's run, though the operational problems documented, the overpouring and disorganized bar top, mirrored issues common to other bars featured on the series.
As part of the rescue, staff were retrained on standard pours, new equipment including point-of-sale systems, a glass washer and an ice machine were installed, and the bar was redesigned around a library-style "study" theme and renamed The Study Lounge. A person described as a medium was brought in as part of the relaunch to address the staff's concerns about the reported hauntings. Six weeks after the rescue, sales were reported up about 30 percent, and owner Jeremy Myers chose to keep the Study Lounge name rather than reverting to the original.
Myers sold the business in 2018. In a public comment posted under his own name on a Bar Rescue fan-update site, Myers stated directly that the new owner did not change the bar's name after the sale and had no plans to. The Study Lounge has continued operating at 1678 Greenfield Drive in El Cajon under that name since the ownership change, with the same site's tracking page listing the bar's status as open and citing a 3.5-star Yelp rating and a 4.4-star Google rating as of its most recent review.
