Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives visited this San Francisco smokehouse for its slow-smoked barbecue plates during the 'Great Gear' episode that aired 2016-06-17. CatHead's BBQ opened in 2008 at 1665 Folsom Street in the SoMa district, building a following for whole-hog barbecue and catering for weddings and company events, according to SF News. SF News reported that CatHead's BBQ closed permanently on 2020-08-02, citing a sharp drop in catering and daily sales during the pandemic; owners Pam and Richard wrote online, "This isn't goodbye for good. It's goodbye for now!!" Yelp's page for the address is also marked permanently closed, with the listing last updated 2026-05. At our check on 2026-09-08, the restaurant's former web address, catheadsbbq.com, no longer referenced the restaurant and instead displayed an unrelated recipe blog, consistent with the earlier closure reporting.
