The Minneapolis restaurant, founded by owner Ruhel Islam, operated in the city's Longfellow neighborhood at 3025 E Franklin Ave. According to CBS News, the building burned in May 2020 amid unrest following the death of George Floyd, and Islam said, "Let my building burn. Justice needs to be served." Bring Me The News reported that Islam opened a smaller restaurant, Curry in a Hurry, in the same location while he pursued plans to eventually rebuild Gandhi Mahal itself.
