What happened after Hotel Impossible?
Hotel Impossible visited the Holbrooke Hotel in Grass Valley, California for the episode Running on Empty (S3E6), aired September 16, 2013. Episode coverage describes the 162-year-old hotel's owner as stretched across event planning, bartending, and leading the house band, with Anthony Melchiorri working to help the owner focus on running the business itself. According to Reality TV Revisited, the Holbrooke Hotel remained open and was placed into escrow and sold in July 2018. Wikipedia's entry on the Holbrooke Hotel, last revised July 21, 2026, describes it as the oldest hotel in continuous operation in California's Mother Lode region, built in 1862, and home to the Golden Gate Saloon, itself in continuous operation since 1852.
A check of the property's website on 2026-09-09 found holbrooke.com live, listing current room types, an online booking function, and posted bar hours of Thursday 5 to 10 p.m. and Friday through Saturday, along with sections for seasonal activities and dining. The page's copyright line reads 2022, several years before the current check date. No specific mention of the July 2018 sale reported by Reality TV Revisited appears on the current site. The Michelin Guide separately lists the property as The Holbrooke Hotel, a stay recommendation in Grass Valley, without citing an operational status or a date for its own listing.
