Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives featured JJ's Red Hots in the episode "Swiss, Sandwiches and Sausage," which aired 2017-02-10, spotlighting the restaurant's char-grilled hot dogs and scratch-made sausages. JJ's Red Hots was a hot dog restaurant that grew to operate three locations across Charlotte, in Dilworth, Uptown, and Ballantyne. The Charlotte Ledger reported on 2025-03-10 that the Dilworth restaurant, at 1514 East Blvd, would permanently close after serving its last hot dog on 2025-03-16, ending more than 12 years in business; the outlet quoted the owner saying, "We just couldn't shred enough cheddar to keep it going." The Charlotte Ledger also reported the company planned to continue operating its food truck after the storefront closed. A Yelp listing for the Dilworth address, updated 2026-08, still marks the location permanently closed.
