Food Paradise, Season 1 Huntsville, Texas
Current status
As of October 2026, New Zion Missionary Baptist Church Barbecue (aka: "Church BBQ") has closed — confirmed via Yelp, July 2026.
What the source shows: Yelp still lists the business as 'CLOSED - Updated July 2026' at 2601 Montgomery Rd, Huntsville; no reopening under this name was found. (A separate successor operation next door, Holy Smoke BBQ, reopened under a new name years ago per a 2021 Texas Monthly piece, but that is a distinct business from this listing.) What happened after Food Paradise?
Food Paradise's "Ribs Paradise" (Season 1, Episode 11) featured a barbecue operation, known locally as "Church BBQ," run by members of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas. The stand sold slow-smoked ribs and other barbecue plates from the church's Montgomery Road property rather than from a licensed standalone restaurant. A Yelp listing for the barbecue at 2601 Montgomery Road, updated in July 2026, lists the operation as permanently closed after it had accumulated 99 customer reviews over the years, according to Yelp. Google's business listing for the same address still shows New Zion Missionary Baptist Church itself as active, separate from the barbecue stand. No source dated later than the July 2026 Yelp listing shows the barbecue currently serving customers.
