What happened after Gordon Ramsay's 24 Hours to Hell and Back?
Sandra Dee's Bar-B-Que & Seafood was a soul-food restaurant at 601 15th Street in Sacramento, California, owned by Sandra Dee, who had run the business for twenty years with her daughters Lena and Tateyanna managing day-to-day operations. When Ramsay's crew filmed the eighth and final episode of the first season in late 2017, the restaurant had been sliding for roughly a year: staff described Sandra and Tateyanna as difficult to work for, the interior still carried dated leopard-print and plastic-plant decor, and online reviews were uniformly negative. Ramsay, disguised as a construction worker, was served food he described as tasting reheated, and hidden-camera footage shown to the family documented staff being treated harshly and unsanitary kitchen practices, including fish held past the day it should have been sold.
Over the 24-hour turnaround, Ramsay's team refreshed the dining room, restocked the kitchen with new appliances and ingredients, and refined the existing menu rather than reinventing it, while pushing Sandra to acknowledge how she had let standards slip and encouraging Tateyanna to apologize to staff and customers for her own conduct on camera. The relaunch impressed diners with its updated decor, and both daughters appeared more engaged in the kitchen and front of house by the end of filming. The goodwill did not fully carry over to the menu itself: after the episode aired in August 2018, Sandra Dee chose not to adopt Ramsay's new dishes, though she did keep the renovated space, and CBS News reported that the show's exposure brought a meaningful boost in customers.
Roughly a year later, on July 20, 2019, Sandra Dee announced on the restaurant's Facebook page that the business would close, writing in part that the decision came "after careful and thoughtful consideration" and thanking two decades of Sacramento customers; she indicated catering under the Sandra Dee's name would continue. Yelp's listing for the 15th Street address remains marked permanently closed as of a September 2026 update.
