What happened after Man v. Food?
On Man v. Food, host Casey Webb attempted Spread Bagelry's Classic Whale Challenge, a roughly 13-pound bagel sandwich stacked with cream cheese, nova salmon, whitefish salad, tomatoes and onions, as described by the Philadelphia Inquirer (Nick Vadala, January 12, 2018). Spread Bagelry is a family-owned Philadelphia bagel business built around wood-fired, hand-rolled bagels. The Inquirer noted the Whale Challenge had already appeared on Food Network's Ginormous Food and NBC's 1st Look before this episode aired. Since 2018, Spread Bagelry's own locations page, updated August 2026, lists 17 active shops across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, South Carolina and Georgia, including its South Street and Rittenhouse Philadelphia locations, with two more locations planned in Philadelphia's Fairmount neighborhood and Atlanta. A Yelp listing for the South Street store, updated April 2026, shows ongoing customer activity at the address featured in the episode.
