What happened after Best Thing I Ever Ate?
On Best Thing I Ever Ate's "Nutty" episode, the Swedish Bakery was recognized for its European-style pastries and cakes, made fresh daily in fruit, custard and nut flavors. Swedish Bakery was a family bakery at 5348 North Clark Street in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood, a Scandinavian enclave shaped by significant Swedish migration to Chicago in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, in business since 1929. NBC Chicago and Patch both reported that the bakery closed permanently on February 28, 2017, after 88 years, citing an aging customer base and no younger family member ready to take over the shop. Patch reported the shop was replaced within a year by Lost Larson, a separate, unrelated Scandinavian-inspired bakery that continues to serve traditional Swedish baked goods nearby.
