On Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives' 'Meat Lover's Paradise' episode (aired 2013-09-02), Guy Fieri visited The Refuge, a gastropub in San Carlos, California known for housemade pastrami sandwiches, burgers, and a Belgian beer list. The restaurant opened at 963 Laurel Street on March 4, 2008, according to its own website. The Refuge's site currently lists hours of Monday through Friday 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., along with working links for reservations and online ordering.
Yelp's listing for The Refuge, updated August 2026, shows more than 2,400 customer reviews and 2,200 photos continuing to accumulate at the same Laurel Street address. Between the restaurant's own current hours and menu pages and Yelp's actively updated review count, The Refuge appears to still be operating under its original name and ownership in San Carlos since opening in 2008.
