What happened after Best Thing I Ever Ate?
Tru appeared in the "Sugar Rush" episode (S1E4), which featured a dessert course from the restaurant's tasting menu. Tru was a fine-dining restaurant in Chicago's Streeterville neighborhood, opened in 1999 by chefs Rick Tramonto and Gale Gand with backing from Rich Melman's Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises, according to Wikipedia (revised 2026-07-06). Wikipedia reports that Tru earned a Michelin star when the Chicago guide launched in 2011 and was elevated to two Michelin stars in 2017, shortly before it closed. The Chicago Sun-Times reported on 2017-09-05 that Tru would close in October of that year; Wikipedia reports the restaurant served its last meal on October 7, 2017.
Tramonto had already left Tru in 2010, several years before its closure, according to Wikipedia, with Anthony Martin serving as executive chef from 2008 onward. Google's business listing for the restaurant's North St. Clair Street address marked the location permanently closed as of a 2026-09-08 check.
