Part 1 — Season 12, Episode 3 Aired

Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (Food Network) featured HRD Coffee Shop in the season 12 episode "You Can Only Get It Here," which aired May 23, 2011, highlighting the shop's fusion burritos and a Mongolian beef cheesesteak. HRD Coffee Shop operated at 521 3rd St. in San Francisco's South Beach neighborhood for nearly 70 years, according to SFist. SFist reported that HRD Coffee Shop closed on June 23, 2023; owner David Yeung cited pandemic-era difficulties, the loss of his weekday lunch crowd, and a strained landlord relationship among the reasons.

Yelp's listing for the address, last updated in June 2026, also lists HRD as permanently closed. A different business, a Cuban cafe and bakery called Social Cafe, currently operates several blocks away at 804 Bryant St and is not connected to HRD Coffee Shop.

Part 2 — Season 27, Episode 8 Aired

Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives visited HRD Coffee Shop in San Francisco's SoMa neighborhood for the 'Amazing Asian' episode (S27E8), which aired September 29, 2017. According to imboredletseat.com, the segment showed Guy Fieri trying HRD's kimchi spicy pork burrito, a Korean-fusion take on diner classics that combined kimchi and sweet chili with cafe staples, and he praised it enthusiastically. HRD was a diner-style coffee shop on the 500 block of Third Street specializing in Korean-fusion comfort food, according to the San Francisco Wiki. SFGate later reported that the restaurant, a longtime Fieri favorite, had closed after roughly 70 years in business.
