On Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Guy Fieri visited this Humboldt County creamery and sampled its jack and cheddar cheeses, made on-site from local dairy milk. Loleta Cheese Factory operated as a cheese-making plant and retail shop on Loleta Drive in the small town of Loleta, California, and drew tourists off Highway 101 for nearly four decades. According to the North Coast Journal (2019-12), the business closed permanently on December 6, 2019, after a foreclosure by Umpqua Bank and a bankruptcy case that had stretched five years; owners Bob and Carol Laffranchi had stopped paying the company's mortgage after the bank nearly doubled its payment. A Yelp listing updated in May 2026 continues to mark the Loleta Drive location as closed. Loleta-branded cheese has continued to be sold in grocery stores elsewhere in California, according to Perishable News.
