Is Tip Top Café Still Open? Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives Update
Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Season 3 San Antonio, Texas
Current status
As of October 2026, Tip Top Café is open — confirmed via the restaurant's current website/social account, accessed 2026.
What the source shows: Yelp listing for 2814 Fredericksburg Rd (Aug 2026 update, 510 reviews) and the business's own site (tiptopcafesa.com) confirm continued operation; an unrelated closed Yelp listing for a different Tip Top Cafe location on Nacogdoches Rd does not affect this record. What happened after Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives?
On Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives episode 'Comfort Food' (aired 2008-06-15), Guy Fieri visited Tip Top Cafe, a San Antonio diner known for its chicken fried steak, crispy onion rings, and homemade pies. DeWese's Tip Top Cafe has served Texas-style comfort food from 2814 Fredericksburg Rd since 1938 and marked its 85th anniversary in 2023. The restaurant's own website, current through 2026, lists curbside pickup by phone and delivery through Uber Eats and DoorDash, and notes 23 Readers' Choice Gold Awards for chicken fried steak won since 2012.
Yelp's listing for the restaurant, updated August 2026, carries more than 500 reviews. A separate, unrelated business also named Tip Top Cafe, at 13835 Nacogdoches Rd in San Antonio, is marked permanently closed on a Yelp listing last updated June 2026 -- a different location from the one featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
