Is Counter Cafe Still Open? Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives Update
Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Season 14 Austin, Texas
Current status
As of October 2026, Counter Cafe is listed open on countercafe.com, reviewed by our team on September 21, 2026; not yet independently confirmed through direct contact.
What the source shows: Re-checked Sept 2026: the restaurant's own site still lists both Austin locations, though its text is a stale COVID-era takeout notice. Yelp listings for both current locations -- Counter Cafe West Campus (updated June 2026) and Counter Cafe East (updated September 2026) -- show active reviews and posted hours; the original N Lamar location remains closed, consistent with prior findings. What happened after Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives?
Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives featured Counter Cafe in the 'Big Time Flavor' episode, aired 2012-04-30, showcasing the Austin cafe's hearty breakfast and brunch dishes. Counter Cafe is a breakfast-and-lunch cafe that opened on West 29th Street in Austin's West Campus area. According to the restaurant's own website, checked 2026-09-08 and displaying a 2026 copyright, Counter Cafe now operates two Austin locations: the original at 603 West 29th St. and a second at 1914 East 6th St., both listing hours of 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and posted local phone numbers. The site also lists current job openings for front-of-house servers and hosts, and displays the tagline 'Local Food | Global Love.' Both locations' contact details and hours appeared unchanged on the site during the 2026-09-08 check.

We work hard to keep every status accurate and dated, but restaurants change fast and our sources aren't perfect. If something here is wrong — a status, a name, an address, anything — tell us what you're seeing and where you saw it, and we'll check it.
