What happened after Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives?
Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives visited Gannucci's Italian Market for its Old School Joints episode (aired 2014-10-31), highlighting the family-run shop's thin-crust pizza and deli sandwiches, including its popular Porketta and muffaletta, alongside a full Italian grocery counter. The West Duluth business traced its roots to the mid-1970s, when it opened as Conito's Italian Village before being renamed Gannucci's Italian Market in 2011 in honor of the family's great-grandfather. According to the Duluth News Tribune, owner Bill Kalligher had expressed optimism in a March 2020 interview about the business surviving the pandemic, but the paper reported on 2021-08-17 that the market and restaurant would close permanently through a full liquidation auction. A Yelp listing updated April 2026 continues to mark the Central Avenue address as closed, with no successor business reported there since.
